Kid X, born Bonginkosi Mahlangu in 1988, is a leading figure in South African hip-hop. Hailing from Mhluzi, Mpumalanga, and later moving to Cullinan, Pretoria, he discovered his passion for rap after watching Eminem’s 8 Mile.
He rose to prominence as part of Cashtime Fam, alongside K.O, AB Crazy, and Zingah, helping shape the local hip-hop scene before the group dissolved in 2014. Following this, Kid X launched a solo career, exploring more personal themes and broadening his artistic vision.
His debut solo album, "Thank Da King" (2018), reflects his growth, fatherhood, and self-discovery, earning him the nickname “Father of Zen.” With hits like "BoomShakaLaka" (featuring Kwesta), "Laundry Day Fresh," and "African Woman," his music blends personal storytelling with social commentary, inspiring young audiences.
Kid X has collaborated with top artists, including K.O, Kwesta, Shwi Nomtekhala, Yanga, NOTA, and Makwa. He is known for high-energy performances at the Hangover Tour, SXSW, and festivals such as Reason’s Katlehong Legacy Show.
His accolades include multiple South African Hip Hop Awards nominations, recognition at SAMA31, and becoming the first African rapper to win a BET Hip Hop Award, highlighting his influence nationally and internationally.
Married to model Duduzile “Dudu” Chili, fatherhood has significantly shaped his creative direction, adding depth and introspection to his work. From street-life beginnings to a mindful, Zen-inspired perspective, Kid X represents resilience, artistic evolution, and cultural impact.
